Join the Los Alamos Mountaineers and Norbert Ensslin as he recounts an intriguing search through the remote sandstone canyons surrounding Navajo Mountain, inspired by author David Roberts' journey to locate the 1863 hiding place of Navajo chief Hoskinini.

Over several years, members of the Los Alamos Mountaineers have explored this rugged and rarely visited region, piecing together clues from Roberts’ writings to retrace his steps. Their adventure led to exciting discoveries, unexpected missteps, and lingering mysteries. This program will feature Norbert’s firsthand accounts, along with stunning photos of the breathtaking landscape and insights into its rich history of discovery, adventure, and survival.

About the Presenter:

Norbert Ensslin has been an active member of the Los Alamos Mountaineers since 1973, participating in and documenting the club’s many adventures. He has previously presented programs on the history of the Mountaineers in 2008 and 2023.
