Description

Join Pete Worland for a special field trip to nearby fossil sites, just a short drive from Los Alamos. On this guided outing, Pete will share insights into the geology and natural history of the landscape while pointing out places where fossils tell the story of ancient life in our region. This is a unique chance to get outdoors, see fascinating sites first-hand, and deepen your understanding of Northern New Mexico’s prehistoric past. 

Advanced registration required. Admission:$15 per person.

 

About the Leader:

Pete Worland earned bachelor (1976) and master (1979) degrees in Engineering Geology from Purdue University. In 1997 he received a Ph.D. in Civil Engineering from New Mexico State University. From 1993 to the present he has worked as a wastewater treatment specialist at the radioactive liquid waste treatment facility at Los Alamos National Laboratory. In addition, Pete has enjoyed teaching the physical and historical geology classes at UNM-LA for the past nine years.
