Description

The Trail: This week we will meet at the trailhead for Kwage Mesa Loop. This loop winds along the north rim of the mesa for two miles to reach a viewpoint and the return leg of the trail follows the south rim back to the trailhead. The loop is 4.5 miles (round trip), and it is rated an easy hike. This trail is listed on the Los Alamos Trails App.

Directions: Park at North Mesa Park. From the nature center, head southwest on Canyon Rd toward Central Ave. Turn right to sty on Canyon Rd. Turn right onto Diamond Dr. and drive 2.4 miles. At the traffic circle, take the 1st exit onto San Ildefonso Rd. Follow San Ildefonso Rd for 1.5 miles, and then turn left at La Mesa Cir. There is plenty of parking at North Mesa Park.

Green Hour Hikes: These are child-led hikes, and some weeks might have more playing than walking. Babies carried in arms, worn, etc. are very welcome. Green Hour Hikes will take place at different trailheads every Wednesday. Don't forget water, snacks, and sunscreen! The goal is to be out for about an hour or so. It is not mileage, but getting outside that matters.

Disclaimer: The group does not necessary stay together due to different interests / walking speed of kids. The group leader is only a facilitator of the activity but parents need to be familiar with traveling in the outdoors.

This event is free.
